Happy 4th. Of July!

We are at the end of our 4th. Map and last of the Western Express
route. We entered Colorado 12 days ago and met a friend Josh in Dove
Creek. We hope he had a great 4th. It sounded like it was going to be
a real good time and we wish we could have been in small town America
for the 4th. But we did end up having a great time in Pueblo. We hung
out at a coffee shop for quite sometime in the morning then checked
out the motel situation. Found a great place near the Riverwalk where
all their festivities for the 4th. were going to be. Brand new hotel
and they gave us a good discount! Very nice helpful people too!
Couldn't check in until 3:00 so kids and I headed to riverwalk to
check that out and Mike tried to find bike store...not much open
though. Riverwalk was beautiful. It was located in a former flood
plain and location of a devastating flood from the Arkansas River.
They moved the river up a few blocks from the downtown area and built
a dam to control the water. The riverwalk it made from a a smaller off
shoot of the river. Beautiful sculpture. Mosaic walls. Tile and brick
pavers and flowers all enhance the manmade landscape and make for an
interesting spot to rest and partake of the wonderful assortment of
food and drink! Pulled pork sandwiches, beans, slushes, iced coffees,
and such! The kids and I checked out a dig site for a former fort that
was built in the gold rush days and hoped to go to the El Pueblo
museum but it was closed. Too bad.
