Day 71- Aug. 8

Short day today! We came upon this great campground and river
expedition company and decided to stay. The owners Dirk and Lori
Morgan let us stay for free(pictured here with staff and one of his
daughters) and bumped a group out if the pavillion so we could be
undercover. We had a great time floating in tubes down the river,
cooked hotdogs and beans and had a nice dry sleep. I even got a piece
of corn that I have been craving all summer. Tough when you are riding
through corn fields for 8 states and just want a piece of corn. Not
all the corn we come across is picnic food for humans though. Much is
for livestock food and also popping corn. James noticed corn on the
barby where Dirk and family had eaten and told his sad story about his
mother who was dying for an ear of corn! How could Dirk refuse? It was
delicious! They have a nice operation at Morgans and boy do they work
hard. Dirk never stopped doing things around the camp. He set up a
tarp at dusk with a bright shop light shining down to the river.
Swarms of these moth like bugs flew into the light and landed on the
tarp. Phenomenon to these partsthat lasts 4 days or so each summer.
He collected thousands of them probably 2" deep on the tarp. If he
doesn't do this, they land too close to the concessions and become
impossible to manage. Never saw anything like this.
